In Memory of Busisiwe Bohale

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our Deputy Chairperson, Ms Busisiwe Bohale from Emalahleni in Mpumalanga Province, South Africa, who succumbed to illness on 3 February 2022. Busi, as she was prominently known, was a fearless and energetic activist who dedicated her life to fighting against the environmental injustices faced by her community.
In addition to being Deputy Chairperson for the Mining and Environmental Justice Community Network of South Africa, Busi was also a member of the South African Green Revolutionary Council (SAGRC). In 2020, Busi participated in the Centre for Environmental Rights’ annual Rights and Remedies School.
The environmental justice movement has undoubtedly lost a remarkable activist, comrade and friend. All those who met and worked with Busi can attest to her warm energy, she was forever smiling and definitely had a great sense of humor.
We extend our condolences to Busi’s family and friends. Busi left a mark in all of our hearts. We will continue to support the great work that she has done in her community.
Lala kahle Mbokodo!
